lyrics

Summer brought the plague, and the white and the blush flowers' petals fell in clumps to the earth. The rosy cheeks of the people grew pale, blistered and wept, tears trickling down. Now even the stars avert their eyes, and the clouds veil the face of the moon. Death spoke soft, whispered a warning, though precious few heard it carried on the wind, on the salty breeze blowing upriver from the sea; where sooty black rats came ashore under cover of darkness, in league with the night, and came tumbling and scrambling through the gutters of the town.
